Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir), The Nanotechnology Network for Islamic Countries will be established in Iran.
“The Organization of Islamic Conference’s permanent committee for scientific and technological cooperation met in Iran and agreed to establish the network,” Ali Asghar Tofiq was quoted as saying by IRNA.
“Materials and Energy Research Center (MERC) is designated as the national hub for the network and the decision will elevate the network’s activities and capacities,” he said.
“This will increase the network’s international activities and allow us to increase our communication and exchange ideas and knowledge with the international communities regarding the nanotechnology.”
He further called on the government to provide additional budget for the new project, saying the current budget for MERC might not be enough.
The official described “teacher-student interaction” as a key part of the new undertaking, saying this will “help us avoid extra expenses and allow us to gain from others’ knowledge and experiences”.
Tofiq said the ranking of MERC has advanced from ninth to fourth place, which is an indication of the ntwork’s capabilities in nanotechnology.
“The commercialization of solar energy is one of the most important aims (of MERC) since its success will reduce energy consumption and costs,” he said.
